Pros And Cons Of Short-Term Carpet Cleaning Methods

You always have your carpet professionally cleaned, but oftentimes your carpet becomes heavily soiled in between those cleanings.  You've been trying to figure out how to keep - or get - your carpet clean in between having it cleaned "properly." Before you pick a cleaning method out of a hat, you should know that there are several different types of short-term carpet cleaning methods out there. Listed below are descriptions of two of them as well as their pros and cons.

Dry cleaning using a special solvent

This is a really popular method with homeowners since it doesn't usually require any advanced training.

  • An absorbent cleaning compound is sprinkled liberally all over a dry carpet.
  • The absorbent compound is allowed to settle into the rug for just under half-an-hour, attaching itself to and clumping up with the dirt and soil in the carpet.
  • A special vacuum fitted with counter-rotating brushes spreads and pushes the compound deep into the carpet
  • The special vacuum sucks up the clumped dirt.
  • Once completely vacuumed, it can be walked on within the half hour.
  • People like it because it is easy to do, even for a relative novice.
  • The downside is that the clumps of solvent and dirt can be really difficult to remove from the carpet.
  • This method doesn't do a deep down clean.

Using the bonnet cleaning method.

The bonnet cleaning may be ideal for lighter but more frequent cleaning of relatively thin rugs.

  • The carpet is vacuumed to remove all loose traces of dirt.
  • A chemical spray is sprayed onto the entire carpet and left to absorb.
  • A bonnet is placed onto a rotary-style floor machine and the machine is used to spread the solution into the carpet fibers so that it can suck up all the dirt.
  • People love this method because it's relatively inexpensive when compared to other carpet cleaning methods.
  • People love that it can quickly clean carpets that have been lightly soiled.
  • Bonnet cleaning only reaches the top portion of the carpet, meaning that deep-down dirt is left behind.
  • The chemical solution tends to sink down and settle at the bottom of the carpet, causing a heavy amount of buildup that can be really difficult to remove.

Keeping your carpet clean is essential if you want to make sure that your family is kept safe from things like allergens, dust, dust mites and soil. While professional cleaning is key, temporary carpet cleaner solutions may be able to fill the gap. Just be aware of the pros and cons of each so that you can make the right choice.

Shopping For The Right House

After my wife and I realized that we wanted to buy a house, we started saving like crazy. We skipped meals out with friends, wore older clothes for awhile, and put off family vacations. However, when we finally had enough money saved, we felt ready to buy the house of our dreams. However, finding that perfect paradise was a little more difficult than we anticipated. To help us to find the right place, we worked with a great real estate agent. This blog is about working with a broker to find a place you and your family will love forever.
